Latin I students will be using Books I and II of the Cambridge Latin Course at Tri-Cities High School this year.. Each unit will have a grammar component, vocabulary, passages in Latin, as well as a cultural component. Many of our projects will be centered around the cultural topics discussed in the stage. By clicking on the photo of our above text, you will be taken directly to the Enrichment page of our text. Please use this as a resource for starting projects, aiding in grammar, and just searching for fun things about Ancient Rome!
Although a dictionary is not required at the Latin I stage, there are some words that every student should know. I was only able to find a digital vocabulary list for The Cambridge Latin Course, I am sure that you would find it as a valuable resource throughout the year. You may download the dictionary by clicking on the links. I do recommend that students use a Latin dictionary on their phones. For the I-Phone, the application called Lexidium may be purchased for about $4.00. There is also an application called Lexidium for Android users which is free. Students may search the following websites for dictionary purposes: Glossa (A Third Way), William Whitaker's Words, and www.nodictionaries.com. The Cambridge Latin Course also offers online resources for students who wish to learn more about the unit, You may find those resources at Cambridge Latin Course Unit I Online Activities and Cambridge Latin Course Unit II Online Activities.

In addition to the text, Latin I students will be responsible for quarterly projects, keeping tabs on their own grades and absences, maintaining a neat and clean Latin notebook, making up all missed assignments on time, coming to tutoring when help is needed, and recovering time for any more than 3 days missed quarterly. Many (if not all) students will be encouraged to take the National Latin Exam in March, to join the Junior Classical League, and to foster a positive attitude toward all things Classical in nature. If you have any questions or comments, please contact Magistra Travis at your earliest convenience.
