All Roads Lead to Rome!
Many people have heard that “all roads lead to Rome,” but have you ever stopped to think what that quote exactly means? Much of the English language derives from the Latin language spoken by Romans 2000 years ago. Our forms of government were established by the Romans over a period of over 1000 years. Most of our medical and legal terms come from Ancient Rome and even today much of our literature derives its themes and ideas from those established by Ancient Romans. The gods of Ancient Rome give their names to the planets in our solar system, Roman numerals are found on clocks and buildings around the world, and several of the elements on the Periodic Table derive their symbols from their Latin names. Our calendar is based on the Roman calendar and many of our customs and ceremonies date back to ancient times. This is not to mention art and architecture! The Romans affect every part of our modern lives, so it is important to study Latin in order to understand why we do the things we do!
